1000 Minutes

1000 artworks on paper sized 3.5" x 2.5" installed as a group. 2020.

This was a process project intended to create a visual, tactile record of my energy over the course of a year -- a journal, if you will. The rules were simple: use only leftover paper and supplies from studio classes, focus on portraiture as content, spend about one minute on each card, remain as loose and reactive as possible, and keep producing cards until I reach 1000. The first card in the series was created on June 7, 2019, and the last card was completed on August 11, 2020. The piece as a whole represents the tension between artistic instinct and artistic technique. Each portrait was furiously drawn while looking at back issues of Interview Magazine (that’s why the bodies are predominantly and unnaturally thin.)
